Rescue Geeks →
Young Katie was teased at school because she carried a Star Wars water bottle and “Star Wars is for boys”. Her mother was disappointed by this, and mentioned how sad it was on her blog. The Internet agreed, and the outpouring of support came in the form of notes from the actress that plays Amidala in the animated “Clone Wars” to piles of schwag from...

c. 1923 maps of Pittsburgh →
I’m a map whore, to begin with. I just love looking at maps- I can be entertained by Google Maps alone if you catch me in the right mood. But to be able to see historical maps- I could spend days playing with this. It tickles me to see what used to be where my house was- I am only a few blocks away from an old sanitarium! That’s so cool.

Is there a laptop in the house?
evangotlib: So a lot of folks were disturbed by my post last night about the pilot using my laptop and wi-fi card to find a new route.  I would have explained last night, but we didn’t get to Dallas until after 1am and I went right to sleep. There were two or three different lines of storms in the west and south that were effecting all Newark outbound air traffic.  There is no mechanism on a...

How To Make Butter In Under 5 Minutes! #baking →
I do a lot of baking, so this is really useful. Of course, I don’t have a stand mixer, so I may not use this, but a handy reference. Yes, I bake but don’t have a stand mixer. You try finding room for one in a 1BR apartment. I’m lucky to have space for a microwave AND a toaster.

This is just disgusting. Not only is the Telegraph reiterating the “she was asking for it” canard, but they’re completely misrepresenting the actual science to push that ridiculous agenda. This is incredibly offensive.

This is GOOD news. Pharmacists, who have to be licensed and registered by the government, can be compelled by the same government to dispense any and all legal medications. This includes Plan B. Can Christian Scientists get jobs in hospitals and refuse to administer...

My answer? Yes. “Evil” is a strong term, but it’s a social and technological ill that operates inside the realm of some pretty bad assumptions and is, in general, just a bad idea. I’ll be interested in cloud computing when “the cloud” lives on a box in my office.
